Founded in 1630 by Luigi Guglielmo Moncada on the site of "Allava", the current name is derived from that of Maria Afan de Ribera wife of the founder. Ancient feud, whose territtorio belonged to the town of Caltabellotta, after various vicissitudes of history, the end of '800 had a remarkable economic and socio-cultural. Ribera was born in 1818 to Francesco Crispi, the distinguished statesman who was also Chairman of the Board in 1887.
 
Monuments to visit

Of particular interest are the numerous churches, including that of Purgatory richly decorated with fine stucco. On Piazza Duomo raises the Mother Church, Mary Immaculate, founded eighteenth century. The next century is the Town Hall, at the same venue. On Via Crispi is the birthplace of Francesco Crispi. The house, in the heart of the old town, is a classic example of nineteenth-century bourgeois house.

Visit the Museum Enoantropologico

Inside the villa, it is worth visiting the permanent museum Ethno-Anthropological. It 'was born in 1989 thanks to the association "Ribera Green" which has collected more than 4,000 artifacts of civilization, pastoral and craft of this area. The establishment of the museum allowed to recover, catalog, restore, preserve and make available all the tools of the ancient art of the peasants and agricultural machinery.
 
The inerario nature and archeology

The territory of Ribera between the towns of "Terre Sicane", offers a natural landscape, environmental and archaeological heritage of inestimable value and full of charm.

The area around the place, you can enjoy exciting visions related to the mouth of the river Platani in which alternate, forests, wheat fields, cultivated land to vineyards and orange groves that end in the nature reserve Mouth of the River Platani dominated the stain mediterrranea and, between Eucalyptus and pine trees, winding paths leading to mare.La cool of vegetation combined with the beauty of the sea make it an ideal destination for those who love the sea and nature in their most pure and untouched, for those who enjoy long walks and dive in silence and stillness between inebriandi scents and colors typical of this area.

The area also offers the eye of the visitor stretches of orange groves. Ribera, is in fact famous for the production of extremely delicious varieties of oranges "Washington Navel".

The coast line offers a varied landscape of extraordinary beauty. Its colors, the charm of the seaside resorts and tourist do nothing but add extra charm and appeal to the beauty of these places. It's beautiful beaches of gravel mixed with white pebbles, lapped by limpid and transparent thanks to the rocky seabed. Particularly beautiful is the beach of Seccagrande, a small paradise for lovers of the sea and underwater fishing.

 

South of Ribera, in the locality Contrada Anguilla, you reach the necropolis of the Bronze Age. Here are the tombs, only the size and type in western Sicily. The graves, in particular, occur in two types: artificial caves and chamber. Some are preceded by a "dromos", a long corridor of 1.5 to 5m from where you enter the actual tomb. The latter consists of one or two rooms with vaulted dome (tholos), with a step on which the deceased was lying and votive objects (vases, rings, weapons, tools).

 


At about 3 km. from the center of Ribera, are the evocative ruins of the Castle of Poggio Diana erected in the twelfth century. The Castle, situated on a rocky outcrop, with its crenellated tower, tall and imposing, dominating the valley of the river Verdura.
