Casteltermini was founded on the 5th April 1629, during the Spanish Vice- Kingdom in Sicily that began on the 23th January 1516, with the ascent to the throne of Spanish Charles V, and ended on the 10th June 1713. Francesco Fernandez de la Cueva, duke of Albuquerque and Viceroy in Sicily of Philip IV of Spanish, also called Felipe el Grande, gave Giovanni Vincenzo Maria Termini and Ferreri, baron of Chiuddia, belonging to a noble and very ancient Catalan family, the “Licentia populandi”, that is the opportunity to found the Town of Casteltermini. The foundation of the new Town was lucky for Giovanni Vincenzo Maria Termini and Ferreri, who on that occasion had the opportunity to become the 33rd Sicilian Prince, and acquired the right to sit in the military wing of the Sicilian Parliament. The next step was to undersing the “Capitoli della Terra”; the new Prince in order to attract new inhabitants to the rising town, gave the town particular favourable conditions and the town grew quilkly and blooming. Since then, there have been ups and downs, Casteltermini has represented to be the best town of the Province of Agrigento, contributing to the economy of Sicily with the sulphur mines, assuring to the cultured personalities such Giovanni Agostino De Cosmi, Gaetano Di Giovanni and Niccolò Cacciatore.
