The nature reserve, Monte Cammarata, has a total of 2,049.37 hectares and includes the municipalities of Cammarata, San Giovanni Gemini and Santo Stefano di Quisquina.

The reserve of Mount Cammarata (1,580 meters high - the highest of the Sicani), was established to preserve the many species of plants and the Falconiformes of the summit; the entire valley is divided between woods and valleys and it is lovely to admire the scenery flown over by the raptors, full of grazing flocks and wild horses, all set in a corner of still uncontaminated nature.

The slopes of the mountain have a dense vegetation of oaks and carob and an underbrush with specimens of chamomile and irises, dandelions, sage and orchids; from the point of view of wildlife it is important to note the presence of the great spotted woodpecker, ravens, buzzards, kestrels and red kites.

The reserve also features historical and religious aspects, in particular the territory of Santo Stefano di Quisquina who had the privilege of hosting Santa Rosalia. You must make a visit to the Sanctuary - Hermitage of Santa Rosalia.

The reserve is managed by the Forestry who have set up some areas. The picnic area Savochello - Monte Cammarata is located in a beautiful pine forest with a recreation area for children, which can accommodate up to 300 visitors. To get there, follow the road from Santo Stefano di Quisquina to Cammarata. When you come to the State forest called Ledera, signaled by specific signs, you have to take the only road that leads to the top of the mountain. The area is also equipped with toilets, cooking points, bike paths and nature trails. Another area is "Buonanotte", in a forest of pine, ash, oak, cypress and flowering ash, equipped with a "center-mount" for breed horses.

Reachability: to get to the reserve from Agrigento, you need to travel the SS.189 (PA-AG) until you reach the exit for San Giovanni Gemini - Cammarata.
